In this age of the digital portfolio sites such as Google Maps, & Microsoft Virtual Earth, have taken the world by storm. Despite changing the digital portfolio these sites still lack the sophistication & clearity that clients are looking for to communicate the right message.

The goal of all cartographers is to learn a niche & offer those skills to a progressive market.  Cartographers are associated with pretty maps however this is an incorrect perception.  While cartographers produce beautiful & easy to read maps many of us have worked for environmental agencies, municipalities, military, businesses, national parks, & many other firms.  Cartographers also are responsible for custom interfaces, metadata, geo-file production, excel documents, & yes even brochure work.

Cartographers are in a world between graphic designers & GIS analysts. Graphic Designers can produce beautiful maps but lack the skills of data analysis & stream lining geo-spatial projects. Pure GIS analysts  are at the opposite spectrum of graphic designers where data analysis is a second nature trait but lack the ability to design & clearly communicate the right message.
